Websites

Do I need WordPress?
No. I build your site from scratch in clean code, so there's no WordPress, no theme and no plugins to keep updating. That's a big part of why my sites load so fast and why so little can go wrong.
How long does a website take?
Most sites go live three to four weeks after the first call. Bigger sites with lots of pages or a booking system can take a little longer, and I'll give you a timeline with your quote.
Will my site work on phones?
Yes. I design for phones first, because that's where most of your customers will find you, and I test every site on real phones before it goes live.
Can I update the site myself?
Most clients just send me their changes. Small text changes are included in the Hosting and care plan, and I usually make them within one working day. If there's something you need to change often, like a price list, tell me when I quote and I'll find the simplest way for you to do it yourself.
Will it help me show up on Google?
It gives you the best possible start. Every site has proper page titles, local business markup and a page for each service, and I connect your Google Business Profile. Rankings also depend on your reviews and the competition in your area, so nobody can honestly promise you the top spot, but I'll tell you where you stand.

Photography

Do you shoot on location?
Yes. I come to you, whether that's your shop, workshop, office or a job on site, anywhere in Lancashire or Leicestershire. Travel is free in Lancashire. Outside Lancashire I charge mileage at 50p a mile, and I'll include it in your quote.
How many photos will I get?
It depends on the shoot, and I'll agree it before I start. Every shoot ends with a set of edited images, sized for your website and social media, so you're not left sorting through hundreds of raw files.
Can I use the photos anywhere?
Yes. Once you've paid, I sign the copyright over to you, so you can use them on your website, social media, adverts, print or anywhere else, with no time limit. I just ask to keep using them on my own website and portfolio.
Can you shoot video as well?
Yes. I don't run video as a separate service, but I can film short clips alongside a photography shoot if you'd like them. Mention it when you get in touch and I'll include it in your quote.

Pricing and payment

How much does a website cost?
A one-page website is £650. Extra pages are £150 each, or five for £600 and ten for £1,200. Online shops start at £2,500. Your quote is fixed before I start, so the price only changes if you ask me to add something.
What if I need something more complex?
I'll quote for it. My prices are for standard pages, and anything extra, like an interactive map, a booking system or a way to manage your own content, is quoted to fit. For Big Red Magazine, I built an interactive map showing where every copy is delivered, and a back end where the team adds each new issue from Issuu themselves. They've put eight years of back issues online through it. Every quote is fixed before I start.
How do I pay?
For websites, half up front when you're ready to start, and the other half when your site goes live. For photography, half before the shoot and half when I deliver the images. I'll send an invoice for each.
Are there any monthly fees?
Only for hosting, which is optional. Hosting is £10 a month, or £100 a year, and covers fast UK hosting, SSL, email and daily backups. Hosting and care is £25 a month, or £250 a year, and adds small text changes, a monthly speed check and priority fixes. Online shops add £20 a month. You can cancel any time. The site is still yours: I'll hand over all the files so it can be moved to another host. If you're on a yearly plan and cancel part-way through, it runs to the end of the year you've paid for, and you can switch after that.

Hosting and aftercare

Do you do hosting?
Yes. Hosting is £10 a month, or £100 a year, and covers fast UK hosting, SSL, email addresses on your own domain and daily backups. For £25 a month, or £250 a year, Hosting and care adds small text changes, a monthly speed check and priority fixes. It's optional, and you can cancel any time. If you do, I'll hand over the files so you can move your site elsewhere. If you're on a yearly plan and cancel part-way through, it runs to the end of the year you've paid for, and you can switch after that.
What happens if something breaks?
With no plugins and no page builder, there's very little that can break. If something does go wrong on a site I host, tell me and I'll fix it as a priority.
Do I own my website?
Yes. Once the final invoice is paid, the site and everything on it is yours. If you ever want to move it to another host, I'll hand over the files.
