Why extra pages are worth it

One page gets you online. More pages get you found.

It's tempting to squeeze everything onto one page to save money, but Google ranks pages, not businesses. A page for each service and each town you cover gives you far more chances to show up when someone nearby is searching.

  • A page for every service

Someone searching "patio installer" wants a page about patios, not a list of ten things you do. A page per service helps you show up for each one.

  • A page for every town

Location pages tell Google, and customers, that you work in their area. They're one of the best ways for a small business to be found in nearby towns.

  • More enquiries, not just visits

A page that answers exactly what someone searched for is far more likely to turn into a phone call than a long page they have to scroll through.

Add-on

Edit it yourself, £250

A light, simple editor added to your site, so you can change your text and photos, update a price list or post news yourself. It's not a full system like WordPress, just the parts you'll actually want to change. One-off fee.

Bundle

Website + photography

Book a shoot with your new website and I'll plan the photos around your pages, so every image has a job to do. Ask for a combined quote.

Pricing questions

How much does a website cost?
A one-page website is £650. Extra pages are £150 each, or five for £600 and ten for £1,200. Online shops start at £2,500. Your quote is fixed before I start, so the price only changes if you ask me to add something.
What counts as a page?
Any single page on your site, whatever its length. The price includes help writing the words and adding your photos, so there are no hidden extras for longer pages.
Do I need the editor?
Only if you want to make changes yourself. Small text changes are included in the Hosting and care plan, so many clients just send them to me. If you update a price list or post news often, the £250 editor lets you do it yourself.
What does an online shop cost to run?
The shop starts at £2,500, including 10 products, with extra products at £50 each. When you sell something, the payment provider takes a small fee per sale, usually around 1.5% plus 20p for UK cards. I'll explain the options when I quote.
Do you charge for travel?
Not in Lancashire: travel to shoots anywhere in the county is free. For shoots outside Lancashire, I charge mileage at 50p a mile. I'll include it in your quote, so there are no surprises.
What if I need something more complex?
I'll quote for it. My prices are for standard pages, and anything extra, like an interactive map, a booking system or a way to manage your own content, is quoted to fit. For Big Red Magazine, I built an interactive map showing where every copy is delivered, and a back end where the team adds each new issue from Issuu themselves. They've put eight years of back issues online through it. Every quote is fixed before I start.
How do I pay?
For websites, half up front when you're ready to start, and the other half when your site goes live. For photography, half before the shoot and half when I deliver the images. I'll send an invoice for each.
Are there any monthly fees?
Only for hosting, which is optional. Hosting is £10 a month, or £100 a year, and covers fast UK hosting, SSL, email and daily backups. Hosting and care is £25 a month, or £250 a year, and adds small text changes, a monthly speed check and priority fixes. Online shops add £20 a month. You can cancel any time. The site is still yours: I'll hand over all the files so it can be moved to another host. If you're on a yearly plan and cancel part-way through, it runs to the end of the year you've paid for, and you can switch after that.
What about email and my domain name?
Email addresses on your own domain come with hosting and cost £5 each to set up. .co.uk domain names are £15 a year and are registered in your name, so they're always yours. Other endings, such as .com, cost more, so I'll quote for those.
Do I own the website?
Yes. Once the final invoice is paid, the site and everything on it is yours. If you ever want to move it to another host, I'll hand over the files.
